What is the Welcome Center? The Welcome Center is located at Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services’ McMillan location and facilitates the psychosocial piece of recovery via activities and some Psycho-Educational Groups. The Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

 

How do I know if the program(s) is/are appropriate for me? If you like to be involved in activities that revolve around socialization and wellness, the Welcome Center is appropriate for you. It is a Psychosocial Day Program rooted in evidence based practices and the Club House model of recovery. The staff is supportive, the schedule changes every quarter. Clients receive a free breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. The Welcome Center offers the opportunity for clients to develop social relationships that are continued in the community and become an important part of their everyday lives.

 

 

What is a typical day at the Welcome Center? The Welcome Center opens at 8:00 a.m. and breakfast is provided at 8:30. During the morning, various activities and discussion develop among staff, peer support, and clients. There are groups such as Health and Wellness, Women’s Group, Men’s Group, and several groups that focus on social and life skills. At noon, lunch is provided and after 1:00 p.m. activities, groups and discussion continue. There is a pool table, ping-pong, Nintendo Wii, arts and crafts, karaoke, sewing classes and many other opportunities for meaningful interaction. Additionally, the Welcome Center participates in outings that meet in the community on a weekly basis. The Welcome Center closes at 5:00 p.m. 

 

How do I sign up for the program? A referral must be sent via Case Manager to Eric Binford, Welcome Center Supervisor. An intake will be scheduled shortly after the referral is received and the DAF and ISP have been reviewed.

GUIDELINES FOR WELCOME CENTER PARTICIPATION

 

  • The ability to engage w/others in a group or activity based setting
    • Demonstrate respectful attitude toward Welcome Center staff and other group members

 

 

  • The individual must benefit from the program
    • Actively participating in social activities and groups with reasonable frequency as stated in member’s ISP
    • Clients that come only for lunch and snacks, sleep, or only to roam facility are not actively participating

 

  • Client must demonstrate behaviors that do not prevent others from benefiting from services
    • Attentive and respectful toward all staff, peers and other group clients
    • Any behaviors that affect other clients recovery process
    • No verbal threatening or intimidation of others in groups
    • No bartering of goods or inappropriate begging for money or tobacco while on GCBHS premises
    • NO FIGHTING

 

  • Clients demonstrated behavior does not present a substantial risk of physical harm to self or others

 

  • No attendance in past 3 months requires process of warning and termination letters (also contact with case managers during the 3 months client is absent)

 

 

  • The individual must possess or be able to achieve a level of self-care, physical capacity and independent functioning consistent w/the expectations of the day program

 

Chronically poor hygiene or bed bug infestation must be addressed by case management in order to continue Welcome Center attendance.
